Gidget Foundation Australia (GFA) is a not-for-profit organisation that supports the emotional wellbeing of expectant and new parents to ensure those in need receive timely, appropriate, and specialist care.

About the role:

A unique opportunity exists for an experienced Clinical Director to join our growing team and service. In the last year, across 23 Gidget Houses and the Start Talking program, GFA have supported over 2,000 families and have delivered over 16,000 appointments. The GFA Clinical Director is a new role, established to ensure thorough and expert clinical governance of our expanding service. This role will be responsible for establishing and implementing a Clinical Governance Framework. The Clinical Director will provide direction and guidance to the GFA Clinical and Program teams on best practice service delivery and provide clinical oversight to ensure GFA continues to deliver a high standard of care. This role will be responsible for supporting and supervising the GFA Clinical Team Leaders who themselves support and supervise over 100 clinicians. This role will report to the CEO and will be a member of the GFA Clinical Governance Committee.

Key responsibilities of the role:

  • Provide leadership and clinical oversight for perinatal mental health treatment within GFA, heading up the clinical team and establishing ways to enhance best practice clinical treatment delivery.
  • Collaborate with the Clinical and Programs teams to ensure clinical standards are maintained, clinicians are appropriately supported and given opportunities for knowledge enhancement, and professional standards are met.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of a formal Clinical Governance Framework that reflects a system of relationships, responsibilities, policies, and procedures that can be used to evaluate against and commit to, to provide safe effective and ethical care to clients.
  • Provide supervision and support for GFA’s Clinical Team Leaders, including being available to Clinical Team Leaders out of hours to discuss clinical matters.
  • Be professionally and clinically responsible for the clinical management and treatment of clients being supported through GFA, including the management of treatment related complaints, and attending Clinical Governance Committee meetings and Board meetings as required.
  • Work with the Programs team to enhance GFA’s clinical data collection, monitoring, and evaluation methods to better assess clinical efficacy of GFA treatment services.
  • Act as a clinical spokesperson for GFA and support CEO with media appearances and attendance at relevant conferences and seminars as appropriate.

A bit about you:

To have success in the role you will be passionate about working within the perinatal mental health space, dedicated to making a difference and a resilient leader who can collaborate with others.

  • AHPRA Trained Board Approved Psychology Supervisor registration and advanced training in Perinatal and Infant psychology.
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience in a clinical leadership role.
  • Clinical experience in perinatal maternal psychology and infant mental health including assessment of and intervention with pregnant women and mothers in the first postpartum year and assessment and therapy with families with infants and young children.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within and lead a multidisciplinary team, including providing clinical supervision, teaching, and training to clinicians as appropriate.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing self-education; and experience of teaching including university affiliations and clinical supervision of staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt clinical practice in accordance with contemporary evidence based best practice and continuous quality improvement principles as well as experience and willingness to participate in and/or lead research activities.
  • Experience in the not for profit health sector an advantage.

  • Competitive remuneration package of $120,000 - $150,000 for 3 days ($200,000 - $250,000 full time equivalent), plus NFP Salary Packaging.

  • Position initially contracted for one year, with the opportunity for extension thereafter.
