ORGANISATION OVERVIEW:

The Global EverGreening Alliance is an international NGO which coordinates the development and implementation of massive-scale environmental restoration and sustainable agricultural intensification projects in developing countries around the world.

The organisation was established to facilitate a collaborative approach to the global problems of food insecurity, rural poverty, climate change and land degradation, and to develop and implement long-term solutions at a globally significant scale.

Its core members include World Vision, Conservation International, the World Resources Institute, the World Agroforestry Centre, CARE International, Oxfam, Catholic Relief Services, JustDiggit, Self Help Africa and The Nature Conservancy.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Global EverGreening Alliance is seeking a Media & Communications Officer to assist in all aspects of internal and external communications – but with a significant emphasis on graphic design, social media strategies and content development.

HOURS & FREQUENCY OF WORK:

Applicants should be able to volunteer for 15 hours per week (negotiable). Core office hours are from 9:30am to 2:30pm, Monday to Thursday and there is some flexibility regarding which days and times the successful applicant chooses to volunteer.

INDICATIVE ACTIVITIES:

  • Develop engaging, inspiring and impactful design content
  • Plan and create a variety of content within a dynamic team environment
  • Identify content ideas across all platforms
  • Reviewing news, media releases and relevant websites to source content and identify upcoming events and opportunities
  • Reviewing the websites and social media, and engaging with communications and technical focal points of members and partner organisations to source material and content
  • Facilitating, taking notes and preparing reports regarding meetings and teleconferences
  • Contributing to the development and maintenance of the communications strategy, policies, procedures, registers and records
  • Drafting communication documents, articles, newsletters, and content for the organisation’s website including blogs, reviews and project reports

RELEVANT SKILLS and EXPERIENCE:

  • Skilled in using Premier Pro, Photoshop, and other Adobe Creative Suite applications.
  • Interpersonal and communications skills, including the ability to engage with colleagues both internally and externally, and with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Well-developed time management skills and an ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines
  • Sound problem solving skills and an ability to work independently, as well as an effective team member to achieve shared goals
  • Demonstrated ability to create content of an extremely high quality, an understanding of targeted campaign posting, familiarity with video editing software
  • Training and/or experience in marketing, communications, media and/or journalism, while not essential, would be an advantage
  • Training and/or experience in environmental conservation, rural development, agriculture, climate change or similar, while not essential, would be an advantage
