Glenroy Study Group Volunteer Tutors

Glenroy Neighbourhood Learning Centre

Glenroy Neighbourhood Learning Centre (GNLC) in partnership with Moreland Youth Services (MYS) and the Glenroy Library will provide learning support to secondary school aged children. The aim of the Glenroy Study Group is to foster positive learning experiences within the Glenroy community, with a focus on young people who may have problematic relationships and experiences with education.

Our after-school Glenroy Study Group program seeks talented, experienced Volunteer Tutors in all subject areas for students between years 7-12. We help students reach their full potential by supplementing the instruction they receive in class and guiding them toward study practices and aides that can help them excel. Tutors work with individual students one-on-one and through organised group activities for students who are studying the same material. We aim to offer compassionate, motivating assistance to help students feel supported.

Tutor role will be to:

  • Meet students at the Glenroy library during the designated day and time after school and go over their homework assignments in the applicable subject area
  • Ask students about specific topics or subject areas that are giving them trouble or that warrant further exploration
  • Review recent homework assignment and test scores, and work through problems or questions that the student did not answer correctly
  • Employ proven study aides to prepare for upcoming assessments
  • Take notes during tutoring sessions so you can follow up with the student later
  • Communicate with parents/guardians if required about trouble areas or any other issue that requires attention

Required:

  • Teaching Qualifications (preferred)
  • 3+ years experience tutoring children/teenagers
  • Working with Children Check
  • National Police Check
  • Able to develop positive rapport with students
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Established proficiency in subject matter
