The Preschool Directors Association of South Australia’s purpose is to advocate for quality preschool leadership and influence the provision of preschool education in South Australia. The Association has strategic directions to focus its work.

The President of the South Australian Preschool Directors Association Inc. (PDA) will provide leadership that ensures the effective functioning of Preschool Directors Association of SA (PDA). The President is accountable to the PDA Committee and its members.

As the President, you will:

  • Advocate for and support preschool leadership to ensure that preschool leaders can provide high quality outcomes for children
  • Advocate for young children‘s learning, development, and wellbeing
  • Support a child centred philosophy and progressive thinking that is informed by early childhood research
  • Support the development of educational objectives and practice that reflects the ideas, ethics, attitudes, and culture of early childhood education.

Your day to day key relationships and interactions will involve working with internal and external stakeholders such as committee members, PDA members, and senior executives within the Department of Education, key non-government partnerships, services providers, relevant agencies, PDA sponsors and advisory boards.

The key outcomes of the role of President, PDA are to grow, lead and manage the PDA’s strategic and operational interests, by:

  • Managing the growth of the organisation to increase its membership, support and influence in early childhood education in SA
  • Supporting preschool directors and early childhood education leaders as a profession, particularly in the leadership of continuous improvement
  • Effectively advocating for public education and preschool leadership and use of networks to enhance community, state, and national understanding of the role of education in SA, including projecting a positive and independent image in support of Early Childhood Education
  • Providing professional development and research to members
  • Providing opportunity for members to participate in policy development and implementation that will have an impact on early childhood learning and operations
  • Communicating with stakeholders, the department and the Minister on issues arising in the development and implementation of policy
  • Contributing towards informed debate about the role of early childhood education and education leaders in SA
  • Developing the PDA Strategic Plan in consultation with the PDA committee
  • Management of the PDA budget and financial practices that meet audit requirement and fulfil contractual and administrative obligations

Essential Criteria

  • Early Childhood Educational Qualifications
  • Current South Australian Teachers Registration
  • Experience as a Preschool Director (and/or experience in early childhood leadership)
  • Eligibility to become a PDA Member

This position is being offered as a full-time role, with flexible working arrangements on offer similar to those available for Department of Education employees. The term of this position is for the period of 8th July 2022 to the 8th July 2024, with the potential for a further 4 years (maximum 6 years continuous service).

The role of President, PDA, will be aligned to the Public Service conditions of employment with 6 weeks annual leave. Some of out of hours work will be required from time to time. You will need a current driver’s license, a current DHS Working with Children Check, an updated RRHAN-EC and a current SA Teacher’s Registration certificate.
