Guide Dogs is the leading Australian provider of guide dogs and orientation and mobility services for people with sight loss. We are a trusted, long-standing and well recognised charity.

The Telepractice Assistant role is a new role that will pilot providing in-person support for individuals with vision impairment who want to participate in telepractice sessions with their Practitioner. The pilot aims to achieve individual goals more quickly by increasing the regularity of training sessions available to individuals, while increasing Practitioner availability for provision of services.

A little more information on some of the things you will be doing:

  • Rapport building to support an individual with vision impairment to feel comfortable with the aids/equipment/devices used throughout the telepractice session
  • Supporting the demonstration and application of aids/equipment/devices to facilitate set-up, connection and filming for a telepractice session
  • Communication with Practitioners (including, Orientation and Mobility Specialists, Occupational Therapists, Orthoptists, Assistive Technology Specialists) to enable effective outcomes throughout the telepractice session.
  • Supporting individuals with a vision impairment to understand how to operate devices used to facilitate telepractice, and make referrals to Assistive Technology Specialist for additional support requirements.

About you:

Ideally you have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate sensitively and respectfully with all relevant stakeholders. An understanding of disability inclusive practice and ability to work with a team to implement inclusive and accessible services for individuals with low vision or blindness. The ability to work in a team, as well as independently. Have excellent time management and organisation skills. Ability to be flexible, adapt to varying workloads, and to effectively manage multiple tasks. As well as the ability to use and connect various technological devices and/or able to learn quickly. Familiar with Microsoft Office, Zoom and mobile phone applications.
