Cancer Council ACT is a small team that is comprised of highly motivated individuals focused on improving Cancer Council ACT’s outreach in the community.

The Role

Manage and oversee the Community Outreach Programs and 13 11 20 Information and Support Line to provide hands on information and support to cancer patients, their families and carers.

This is primarily a client-facing role, which is a highly rewarding opportunity to build connections and have a direct impact on the Canberra community.

  • Be the Cancer Council point of contact within hospital settings for individuals affected by cancer
  • Spend time and build connections with clients, improving their quality of life and ensuring they have access to the services and support they need
  • Identify the cancer related concerns and issues from people accessing Cancer Council ACT support – making initial assessment of psychosocial support and referral as required
  • Lead and promote awareness of the Cancer Council ACT support services to oncology and primary health providers in order to strengthen and enhance referrals
  • Support the internal team to engage with clients, regional medical and allied health professionals, other staff, volunteers, and community members, to improve community awareness of current programs, supports, and services
  • Develop and deliver workshops and education sessions to help raise awareness of prevention and education
  • Work with internal team to help raise awareness of programs and services in the community including clients, regional medical and allied health professionals, other staff, and volunteers

Your Background and Experience

To be successful in this role you should hold a current unrestricted registration with AHPRA, along with tertiary qualifications in a health-related field, including RN or social work with oncology experience.

You will have a strong understanding of cancer and its impact on individuals and their families with the ability to communicate and advocate to medical professionals for the best outcomes for people experiencing cancer.

You enjoy working autonomously and within a team while taking the initiative to deliver results. You can quickly build rapport with people and have an outgoing nature, which allows you to build strong relationships.

Salary / Rate

  • $80K - $100K + Super + PBI ($15,900)
  • Free parking in the area
  • Deakin office location, however you will also be working remotely in order to deliver your services at patient locations
