What is headspace - Be You Program

headspace in collaboration with Beyond Blue deliver "Be You" the national mental health in education initiative. Be You supports educators from early learning services and schools to develop a positive, inclusive and resilient learning community where every child, young person, educator and family can achieve their best possible mental health.

The initiative has a multidisciplinary team (Clinicians, educators and other professionals) who support school communities nationally.

Tell me about the role……

The Be You Consultant will support schools with the implementation of the "Be You". The initiative aims to build mental health understanding and capacity in educators and school leaders. You will partner will school leaders and systems to implement a whole school approach to mental health and wellbeing.

The Be You Consultant will support schools to plan for, respond to and recover from a death by suicide impacting the school community.

Who are we looking for?

headspace Be You is seeking a Social Worker or APHRA registered Clinician who is;

  • Engaging and motivated who has demonstrated experience supporting individuals or communities in recovery/wellbeing post a critical incident or trauma.
  • Brings comprehensive knowledge of school environments
  • A strong communicator and has excellent stakeholder engagement
  • Experienced adult learning facilitator
  • Available to travel within NSW/ACT and has a full license and vehicle.

This role requires intra state and interstate travel and is offered until 30 June 2023 in line with our funding term.

  1. What is your experience in working with young people with mental health issues, including assessing risk? What is your understanding of how mental health issues impact on young people and their learning?
  2. What are some key characteristics in engaging schools in a mental health program, such as Be You? Drawing on your experience and/or observation, describe some of the challenges and opportunities you might face.
  3. What are the effects on a school if they have been impacted by a suicide and what actions might a school take to support people who are at risk?

To be eligible for this position you must have the right to live and work in Australia. A Working with Children Check (or State/Territory equivalent), a Police Check and COVID-19 vaccination certificate are required for this position.
