Tell me about the role

headspace Work and Study is an international first, providing vocational assistance to young people facing barriers to work and study. Support is tailored to a young person's needs using strengths based approaches to help them reach their work and study goals. All support happens online, meaning young people right across Australia can access the service. Based on the Individual Placement and Support model of employment support for people living with mental ill health, the service targets 15-25 year olds who are looking to find, engage or maintain work and/or study.

Work and Study Specialists (Career Advisors) work directly with a caseload of young people providing appointments via web chat, phone, email and video chat. Specialists collaborate with educational institutions, employment agencies and employers to assist young people with identifying opportunities. Stakeholder engagement with referral partners, including headspace centres, to promote service referrals and participation is an important part of the role.

This role works within a small and collaborative team alongside mental health clinicians who work closely with Specialists to provide integrated clinical care. You will deliver vocational interventions aimed at minimising the impact of mental health challenges on a young person's engagement with work and study, building resilience and enabling recovery.

Due to the online and accessible nature of the service, Work and Study Specialists (Career Advisors) work from home or as negotiated. Their knowledge of their community and state/territory is critical for supporting young people and for increasing service awareness and referrals. It also provides integrated connection to local headspace services, other providers and education and employment opportunities.

This is a career opportunity not to be missed for professionals who want to work in an environment that promotes a positive, personalised and strengths based approach to career development, job seeking and educational attainment.

Who are we looking for?

If you have experience providing work, study and career support to young people in your local area, have a comprehensive understanding of the employment landscape, coupled with an ability to actively engage young people with complex needs, then this is an opportunity you won't want to miss.

You will demonstrate exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, along with a proven ability to develop solutions to complex problems and sustain collaborative partnerships with a range of stakeholders within the employment and education service system in your state or territory. As driving service engagement and referrals is an important part of the role, existing networks and sector relationships are of real benefit.

We are currently recruiting for candidates who have strong connections and networks in their area. Anywhere within the state/territory will be considered but you will at times be required to travel locally for stakeholder work and more intermittently to connect with other team mates. Please read further in the finer details for job location details.
