About the role

This new pivotal position is required to lead the development and implementation of the WHS management system across all headspace National work locations (Australia wide). The role will build the capability across the organisation to ensure the WHS management system is effectively embedded across all headspace locations. Specifically, the Manager WHS is expected to:

  • Be responsible for the strategic direction of the WHS function
  • Provide expert advice, guidance and support on all matters relating to workplace health and safety, injury management and workers compensation, consistent with contemporary practice, current research and legislative requirements
  • Use quantitative and qualitative data to lead the identification, implementation, and evaluation of targeted strategies to grow and support a strong safety culture
  • Ensure an efficient and effective WHS function, providing effective responses to any hazards or incidents and driving various WHS committees
  • Responsible for the provision of all reporting across the various WHS Committees, Executive and headspace Board

Who we're looking for

Someone who can build great stakeholder relationships, who is enthusiastic, collaborative, technically skilled and experienced working within a complex and risk-diverse environment. It is essential that you can form strong relationships and partner with leaders to impart information, negotiate outcomes and influence actions to maintain a positive safe culture. You will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Workplace Health and Safety (or related discipline)
  • Significant experience in a similar role leading Workplace Health and Safety management systems, preferably with oversight across multiple states/territories
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant WHS legislation, regulations, codes, and best practice standards
  • Significant experience in injury management and return to work matters
  • Ability to provide informed practical advice and guidance in relation to WHS hazards, risks, and incident management across all levels
  • Proven track record in building and maintaining effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders and driving a strong and collaborative culture of safety
  • Ability to work in a highly productive environment with time pressures whilst managing multiple tasks
