Tell me about the role…

The headspace Connect Clinician works at headspace National (Melbourne) and provides therapeutic mental health support to young people referred from select headspace centres. The service provides an alternative support option for young people requesting support via the centre network. headspace Connect combines online and video/telephone support to young people and translates mental health professional services into a telephone and online environment.

Key deliverables of this role will be:

  • Undertake assessments with young people and plan a collaborative, evidence informed, recovery focused, intervention via telephone, video, e-mail and online.
  • Liaise and refer to face-to-face and alternative service providers including statutory services and the centre network, where appropriate and necessary.
  • Advocate for the identified needs of young people with internal and external stakeholders

Who we're looking for

headspace is seeking qualified and appropriately registered professionals in one of the following areas: Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Mental Health Nursing, Clinical/Counselling Psychology or Counselling.

  • Eligibility for membership of an appropriate professional body. Social workers are required to be eligible for full membership with the AASW. Psychologists, Mental Health Nurses, and Occupational Therapists are required to have full registration with AHPRA. Counsellors are required to hold a Masters of Counselling as well as eligibility for Level 3 membership with the ACA.
  • Advanced skills in assessment, planned therapeutic intervention and safety planning in order that the support for young people experiencing mental distress is commensurate with evidence informed, best practice principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of youth mental health practice and principles including a thorough and holistic understanding of the complex factors contributing to mental distress in young people.
  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills both written and verbal with the ability to effectively problem solve, negotiate and advocate for positive and sustainable outcomes for young people accessing the service.
  • A thorough understanding and commitment to engaging in reflective practice and professional development processes and activities including seeking consultation and support from senior clinical staff when appropriate.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation and policies to support vulnerable young people.
  • A commitment to working alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, to understand and further develop approaches to practice which are collaborative, inclusive and culturally appropriate.

In line with current funding terms to 30 June 2022, we are offering a salary range of $73,000 - $87,000, commensurate with skills and experience, plus superannuation and generous salary packaging opportunities up to the maximum amount ($15,900).
