Hands Mission Inc. is a not-for-profit organisation that runs six op shops across Melbourne and rural Victoria, and provides emergency food and material aid support to Victorian families and individuals who are suffering as a result of extreme circumstance.

We know that extreme circumstance can strike anyone at any time. Natural disaster, such as drought or bushfire can have an enormous impact on the day-to-day lives of many families, Similarly, illness, domestic violence or unexpected loss of income can place people in a sudden and very difficult situation. We work in partnership with a large number of aid agencies to ensure the emergency and material aid support we provide is accessible and directed across a broad range of community needs.

ABOUT THE POSITION

As the Warehouse Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day operational activities of the Warehouse and transport team to ensure the timely and efficient delivery of warehouse support to the business. Reporting to the Retail Manager and working closely with the Logistics/Material Aid Manager and Community Pantry Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring all Warehouse activities are managed in accordance with company policy, legislative and safety requirements.

Key accountabilities

  • Direct line management and support of all warehouse staff, volunteers and participants, including drivers and jockeys
  • Receive and assess incoming furniture donations to ensure they are suitable for sale
  • Prepare and despatch stock to support store requirements, including the assembling and display of furniture at Fullarton Road
  • Coordinate vehicles for delivery and pick up in line with daily schedule
  • Support the Material Aid Manager through the safe storage, cleaning, testing and allocation of donated furniture and white goods.
  • Support the day-to-day operation of the Community Pantries, providing assistance to unload, transport and store donated food items (including frozen produce).
  • Support the day-to-day management of clothing donations, including storage and transport of stock to Sunshine Warehouse
  • Unloading and loading of goods, ensuring all goods leaving the warehouse have been properly secured in vehicles
  • Manage and monitor ‘driver vehicle checks’ and report issues to management
  • Housekeeping and maintenance of warehouse area and external grounds
  • Coordinate and manage recycling and rubbish removal from site
  • Compliance with all Helping Hands Mission’s policies and procedures, including Occupational Health and Safety obligations
  • Observe health and safety regulations with manual handling and warehouse storage ensuring materials are kept in a safe, clean and orderly condition.

  • Communications Manager/Logistics Manager (daily run sheet, bookings, existing donor relationships, promotion, logistics etc)
  • Material Aid Manager (as outlined above)
  • Pantry Manager (as outlined above)
  • Community Engagement Manager (shop floor, Saturday requirements)
  • Business Manager (vehicle maintenance, HR support)
  • Retail Manager (Line manager, shop requirements, stock management,
  • Relationships Manager (Sunshine warehouse, Sunshine pantry, WFD, OHS)

  • Donors
  • Customers
  • Rubbish removal companies
  • Foodbank Victoria (weekly delivery)
  • Food rescue organisations, (daily drop offs and supermarket pickups)

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills
  • Ability to anticipate and solve problems
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Current police check
  • Ability to do heavy lifting in a fast-paced environment
  • Current forklift licence with demonstrated high reach experience
  • Previous experience leading and mentoring a warehouse/distribution team
  • Preferred previous experience in a NFP/Op Shop environment
  • This position requires physical demands with the ability to lift, carry, push or pull weights up to a certain limit, plus movements such as bending, squatting and reaching. The role requires the individual to be exposed to changes in temperature and humidity and exposure to dust and fumes.
