Background

Habitat for Humanity Victoria (HFHV) is a state based affiliate of Habitat for Humanity Australia and part of the global HFH international organisation. HFHV Is a charity and Not for Profit organisation registered with the ACNC. HFHV’s flagship program is it’s Affordable Home Building program which is supported by other programs to improve shelter and housing; including the home repairs program known as Brush with Kindness (BWK), disaster recovery assistance and partnerships providing improved housing solutions.

Purpose

The Volunteer Coordinator – Housing Programs is responsible for program coordination and leading teams of generally unskilled volunteers to complete various housing related projects and provide guidance and positive support to volunteers engaged on the day.

The Volunteer Coordinator – Housing Programs undertakes a range of functions including -

  • Coordinating program activities and related resources
  • Working with and establishing effective relationships with program stakeholders; including partner agencies, recipients, and other staff
  • Ensuring program reporting requirements are met
  • Organising and managing maintenance work, landscaping projects, indoor and outdoor painting, and small building projects
  • Manage all logistics for volunteer activities efficiently and effectively; including tools, equipment, materials, refreshments, etc
  • Ensuring a safe working environment and proactively encouraging safe working practices
  • Managing volunteers and work to ensure projects are completed on schedule

The Volunteer Coordinator – Housing Programs role:

  • Is based at the HFHV Office in Kilsyth South
  • Will involve some work on Saturdays
  • Requires a full Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving history
  • Requires a satisfactory Police check and a Working With Children Check/Card.
  • Fixed term contract to 30 June 2023 for 3 days per week (0.6FTE) including some Saturdays

Selection Criteria

Highly motivated, positive, excellent organisation skills with very good attention to detail and ability to work independently.

  • Program coordination and stakeholder management skills
  • Highly developed communication skills including written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Strong IT skills including competency with the Microsoft Office suite
  • Proven ability to supervise and manage unskilled volunteers undertaking building maintenance and small building projects, including painting.
  • Ability to support, motivate and work with up to 10 unskilled volunteers creating an enjoyable work environment and volunteer experience
  • Building maintenance and renovation skills and experience, including ability to paint and complete building repairs and small building projects.
  • Construction White Card (or wiliness to obtain) and knowledge of construction site safety.
