Communications and Advocacy Producer - Flexible Location

Hireup

We’re Hireup, where purpose meets technology

Hello, nice to meet you! We’re an online platform and community for people with disability and their families, anywhere in Australia, to find, hire and manage local support workers who fit their needs and share their interests. Whether it’s support with personal care, getting to work or catching a footy game, we give individuals the tools and technology to pursue a good life on their own terms - a life of choice, independence and control.

At Hireup, you’ll become a critical part of an exciting team, championing this purpose for people with a disability. Wherever you fit best within our organisation, from tech to support and everything else in between, this purpose will ignite you, and our united, grounded and autonomous workplace will help you flourish.

And what does this look like for you? A life at Hireup is genuinely fulfilling. Here you’re free to explore your potential, experiment and grow, knowing you have the support of an established, investor-backed organisation in a culture defined by empathy, unity, equality and authenticity. We’re also growing across Australia's major cities and proud to offer flexibility in how and where you do your best work - whether office-based, hybrid or fully remote.

Your Role - Communications and Advocacy Producer

At Hireup, quality content - writing, video and audio - that advocates for our community is at the heart of our ambitions to be, and to be seen as, a great player in the disability sector. We want to be an ally for our clients and workers, not just a provider of services. We want to keep our community informed about the news in the sector and keep the wider world informed about issues that matter to those in our sector. Compelling content that people want to share is how we’re achieving this.

Our advocacy should reach anyone and everyone with an interest in what’s happening in the disability sector. It should be entertaining, engaging and often provocative – the sort of content that can hold its own against the very best produced by media companies, while often working hand-in-hand with those companies too.

  • Deliver high-volume, high-quality journalistic output to a clear content strategy
  • Work independently and as a part of teams creating compelling content that spreads far and wide
  • Write, record, shoot and edit content people want to share
  • Work on an ever-changing variety of projects for employees, customers, potential customers and beyond
  • Generate ideas for both proactive content and content that is reactive to external news and events
  • Work with colleagues across Hireup to make professional output for our employees – including support workers – and our existing customers
  • Seamlessly float between daily journalism projects as part of a Hireup disability sector ‘newsroom’ and more corporate, business-centric content
  • Establish excellent contacts throughout the disability sector – including with sector professionals and social media influencers – as both contributors to the content and audiences for it
  • Work closely with the marketing team to help distribute the content and measure its reach, impact and effectiveness
  • Work to maximise the content’s prominence in online search
  • Engage in social media (Twitter) to extend our reach across the community, the sector, politics and the media

Your Background

  • A journalist and/or producer with a track record of making top-quality output for a major media organisation or equivalent or an advocate with a ‘for purpose’ organisation
  • A superb, fast, polished writer with a considerable portfolio of published articles
  • Substantial skills across a variety of production formats – including video and audio
  • A sharp thinker, and fast creator – consistently able to turn ideas into output within hours
  • A Twitter user and fan, with a broader knowledge of social media and search engine optimisation (SEO) and evidence of creating content that spreads
  • Excellent knowledge of – or evidence of commitment to learn about –- Australia’s disability and media sectors and how Hireup’s content can fit into –- and lead – both
  • Someone with high energy, drive and internal motivation who demonstrates adaptability, resilience, patience, transparency, trustworthiness, passion and curiosity
  • Highly desired: considerable social media presence and strong contacts across Australia’s disability sector and its media sector
  • A strong academic background and interest in current affairs in the broadest sense

Your Benefits

  • Flexible work environment to balance the needs of your role, home and family life
  • Generous leave options include 12 weeks of paid parental leave and 7 additional days to help you pursue your ‘good life’ and learning goals
  • Allowances to support you in your work set-up and professional development
  • Wellbeing programs, health and fitness discounts to help you stay happy and healthy at work
