Kanyirninpa Jukurrpa

Kanyirninpa Jukurrpa (KJ) is seeking caring, patient and self-motivated individuals who are people focussed, highly organised and able to multitask. Within this position you can help to make a real difference for people living in several remote Western Desert communities in WA.

Kanyirninpa Jukurrpa is a Pilbara organisation with a Corporate Services function that is based in Newman. Within the Corporate Services department there are two Project Officer roles that support both the administration of the organisation and attending to the needs of Martu. It is not necessary that you have experience working with Indigenous people or communities, but it is essential that you have a passion to work for an organisation that is making a change, are highly adaptable and thrive working in a busy environment where each day can present a new challenge.

Based in Newman, these roles will provide you with opportunities to meet and work with remarkable people, to see beautiful, remote desert country and to contribute to building a strong future for remote communities.

About KJ

“KJ is working with Martu to build strong, sustainable communities”.

Kanyirninpa Jukurrpa (KJ) is an established, successful and highly-regarded Indigenous organisation based in the Eastern Pilbara town of Newman. It has been operating as an independent Martu company for 10 years and works in the remote communities of Jigalong, Parnngurr, Punmu and Kunawarritji.

KJ is focused on three complementary objectives:

  • to support Martu to look after culture and country;
  • to build a viable economy in Martu communities; and
  • to build pathways for young Martu to a healthy future.

To do so, KJ delivers a suite of social, cultural, environmental, and economic programs. It has a strong reputation for engaging and supporting Martu in successfully delivering these programs and is the biggest employer of Martu in the region.

The role of the Project Officer is both challenging and highly rewarding. It is an important position and crucial positions for success of KJ’s programs.

KJ’s staff are passionate, creative, committed, and resourceful in the design and implementation of programs and activities, in partnership with Martu. Building these partnerships require KJ staff to be adaptive, consultative and it demands the ability to listen to, understand and respect Martu staff views and attitudes.
