ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a seasoned qualified Youth Counsellor/Social Worker for a hands on full-time position in Brunswick West. As the Youth Reconciliation Worker you will provide one-to-one counselling and support to young people so that they can establish and maintain constructive relationships with their family and broader support networks.

In this role you will:

  • Utilise a solution focused, strengths based approach to provide short-term counselling and support services (maximum three months) to young clients
  • Have the opportunity to facilitate a range of fun and engaging workshops with young people
  • Facilitate presentations for staff on specific topics for learning and development

Hope Street Youth and Family Services Limited ("Hope Street") based in the Northern and Western regions of Melbourne, is one of the longest established specialist youth homelessness services in Victoria delivering a broad range of support services to young people who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

ABOUT YOU

  • Do you hold a Bachelor Degree or further in either Social work, Counselling or Psychology?
  • Do you have demonstrated work experience 1:1 (2 years minimum) with young people and/or young families in crisis?
  • Do you pride yourself on your ability to build relationships quickly with your client group and deliver early intervention and prevention services to young people?
  • Do you enjoy strengthening the capacity for young people to live interdependently and supporting a young person to achieve self-reliance, stability and self-determination?
  • Do you have demonstrated experience running workshops with young people and teams or facilitated presentations in capacity building and reflective practice?

If you are an experienced Youth Counsellor or Social Worker, with a strong understanding of the impact of youth homelessness, the risk factors and the ability to deliver early intervention and prevention services, we want to hear from you!
