The role:

Our leaders drive the project work of the organisation and play an important representational role. We trust our leaders to manage multiple projects and engage directly with clients on the technical and relationship aspects of projects. Leaders work effectively within project teams. They provide guidance and mentorship to researchers and interns, as well as being able to seek the input and advice as required from Directors and Executives.

What we are looking for

We are looking for a dynamic team player with demonstrated experience in practitioner-based research to support our portfolio of work looking at local leadership and power dynamics within the aid sector. The role will require an understanding of localisation as an approach to fundamentally improving humanitarian action and an interest in understanding people and power dynamics within the sector.

Our ideal future team member will have demonstrated:

  • Understanding of the humanitarian and development landscape, with an interest (and preferably research experience) in locally-led response, decolonising aid, and power inequalities within the sector
  • Understanding and application of practitioner-oriented research
  • Ability to write with clarity and passion
  • Ability to work flexibly
  • Ability to work collaboratively within the team and with our partners
  • Ability to work effectively and independently, in a fast-paced environment, and to manage multiple concurrent projects
  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally (once travel is permitted)
  • Experience in working in humanitarian or development contexts outside of Australia (will be an asset).

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to an Executive, the key responsibilities for this role will be as follows:

Research and writing

Support HAG’s localisation research portfolio including work under the new phase of our strategic research program, Humanitarian Horizons, including:

  • Overseeing project management, quality control and client interface
  • Developing research tools and methodologies
  • Leading primary data collection and analysis
  • Coordinating with partners and consultants
  • Report writing for different audiences.

Technical advice

Support organisations to turn good practice into better practice by:

  • Facilitating strategy development
  • Providing monitoring and evaluation support to client projects
  • Leading policy review and development

Facilitation and Training

Support organisations to learn from the past and plan for future responses by:

  • Facilitating training, workshops, meetings and reflection events with a broad range of stakeholders
  • Supporting development of facilitation guides and resources

Business Development and Relationship Management

Contribute to the growth and sustainability of HAG by:

  • Coordinating and provide input into proposals
  • Actively seeking out new funding opportunities
  • Contributing to organisational development our social purpose commitments.
  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with current and prospective partners, clients and national consultants
