Ethical Clothing Australia (ECA) is a joint industry-union initiative working collaboratively with businesses towards a more transparent and ethical Australian textile clothing and footwear (TCF) industry. The organisation encourages manufacturers to participate in a voluntary accreditation and labelling system, while also promoting ethical Australian TCF products to consumers.

Ethical Clothing Australia - National Manager

Ethical Clothing Australia (ECA) is a joint industry-union initiative working collaboratively with businesses towards a more transparent and ethical Australian textile clothing and footwear (TCF) industry. The organisation encourages manufacturers to participate in a voluntary accreditation and labelling system, while also promoting ethical Australian TCF products to consumers.

As the National Manager you will:

  • Report to The Homeworker Code Committee
  • Oversee the administration, development and promotion of Ethical Clothing Australia (ECA)
  • Manage the Office and Administration Coordinator, Accreditation Advisors and Marketing and Digital Coordinator
  • Liaise with: companies participating with ECA; TCF Union (CFMEU Manufacturing Division) Compliance and Outworker Outreach staff; Government and NGOs/civil society; industry stakeholders; service providers and
  • Have a commitment to ethical work practices.

Key responsibilities

  1. Oversee the development and implementation of strategy and policies in consultation with ECA staff and the Committee.
  2. Develop and secure partnerships with government and other relevant bodies with the primary aim of obtaining funding for ECA.
  3. Manage and support ECA staff through overseeing staff work plans and opportunities for professional development.
  4. Represent and promote ECA publicly in coordination with ECA staff.
  5. Provide administrative support including office management, staffing requirements, IT, financial and governance policies and procedures, and manage the contractual arrangements and reporting requirements of all funding agreements.
  6. Build and strengthen relations with policy makers and relevant stakeholders and prepare submissions and reports on behalf of ECA.
  7. Report to the Committee on relevant issues, provide advice and recommendations/ manage the preparation and distribution of papers and reports for Committee meetings and AGMs.
  8. Manage the ECA budget and all financial and funding administration and reporting in consultation with the Finance Officer.
  9. Assist Accreditation Advisors with challenging files and engaging in conflict resolution if required.
  10. Ensure that ECA and its operations are compliant with all relevant legislative requirements.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Proven leadership experience in developing organisational policies, strategies and procedures.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the values and objectives of ECA as well as knowledge of the TCF industry.
  • Ability to achieve strategic outcomes through advocacy and lobbying.
  • Excellent communication skills including proven track record of public speaking and presenting, and experience liaising with the media.
  • Willingness to travel and a valid drivers licence.

Conditions of employment

Conditions as per the agreement with Homeworker Code Committee Inc. An attractive remuneration package, commensurate with relevant experience and competence, will be offered to the successful applicant.

Key Selection Criteria

  1. You have the ability to achieve strategic outcomes through advocacy and lobbying. You can build and strengthen relations with policy makers and relevant stakeholders and can prepare submissions and reports on behalf of ECA. You have experience in maintaining and developing strong networks amongst a diverse stakeholder groups including government, business, trade unions, academics and NGOs.
  2. You are skilled and knowledgeable in gaining external funding and managing all requirements relating to funding agreements. You have worked with government or other agencies to create and maintain funding agreements.
  3. You are a people manager and have proven leadership experience and skills. You can manage small teams and have the ability to lead and maintain highly functioning and collaborative teams.
  4. You have experience in a not for profit environment (preferable). You understand the reporting requirements for a non-government organisation and you will manage the preparation and distribution of papers and reports for Committee meetings and AGMs. You will work to protect and uphold the reputation of the program. You are proactive and resourceful with an ability to work both independently and as part of a committed team.
  5. You have knowledge and insights into our local TCF industry (preferable). You will be proactive in engaging with local manufacturers, businesses and industry stakeholders; providing information about the accreditation program and its benefits and seeking opportunities for involvement and promotion in industry programs and events. You will have the capacity to provide expert advice on the accreditation program and its administration.
  6. You have knowledge and insights into the role of unions (preferable). You will need to work closely with the TCF Union as it delivers the auditing work and you will assist in ensuring that the appropriate documentation and processes are in place to assist with this work and worker outreach.
  7. You have excellent communication skills including proven track record of public speaking and presenting, and experience liaising with the media.
  8. You share our values. You have an understanding of and commitment to the values and objectives of ECA.
