ABOUT THE SPARC PROGRAM

SPARC

ICLA’s Suicide Prevention and Recovery Centre (SPARC) in Carlton is an early intervention service that works with people to facilitate a positive change in their life with the overarching aim of fostering a sense of connectedness, hope and empowerment. This program isn’t an acute mental health or crisis service, rather is provides support to people who are experiencing stress and feeling a sense of hopelessness. Peer Support Workers work alongside Mental Health Support Workers in a rotating shift pattern between the hours of 7am - 11pm Monday to Friday.

PARC

ICLA’s Prevention and Recovery Centre (PARC) in Bondi offers a short stay, mental health residential program in a home-like environment in partnership with the South & Eastern Sydney Mental Health Services. This service provides 24/7 empathetic care and support, offering a step-up/step-down model to assist guests with their mental health recovery. Peer Support Workers work alongside Mental Health Support Workers and clinical staff, with shifts across a 24-hour period, 7 days a week.

We have part time & casual positions available working day, afternoon and active overnight shifts across our Carlton & Bondi programs Monday - Sunday.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Our empathetic & compassionate Mental Health Support Workers support guests to engage with the program and drive their own recovery journey to achieve their recovery-goals. Our team listen with empathy and understanding and support connection to external services, as well as assisting with the overall operation and daily running of the site.

Remunerated at Level 2 of the SCHADS Award, remuneration commences from $28.41 per hours, plus super and applicable loadings.

Responsibilities:

  • Establishing an ongoing and trusting relationship with guests
  • Listening to guests without judgement and acknowledging the unique experiences of each person
  • Supporting guests to work towards their individual, recovery-oriented needs and goals, while ensuring they are drivers of their own recovery
  • Ensuring the health and wellbeing of our guests is respected and promoted.
  • Assisting guests in engaging in our programs by supporting them to identify their individual, recovery-orientated needs and goals.
  • Assisting in linking guests into support networks external to ours that will promote their connectedness and recovery beyond our program.
  • Ensuring that regular maintenance needs of the building and grounds are reported.
  • Purchasing and appropriately store food and goods as necessary to meet guests’ needs and maintain good nutrition
  • Contributing to the creation and maintenance of a warm, caring and homelike environment
  • Assisting the Registered Nurse with medication management for guests.
  • Meeting with guests’ case managers, rehabilitation workers, or other key service providers to discuss issues relevant to their recovery.

ABOUT YOU

Essential Criteria:

  • A commitment to providing compassionate, person-centred and recovery-oriented support.
  • Ability and capacity to listen and acknowledge discussion of suicide and mental health in a compassionate, non-judgmental way.
  • Proficiency and confidence in interpersonal communication skills, with a dedication to build trust and rapport with guests.
  • Police Check, First Aid Certificate
  • An unwavering commitment to follow and adhere to policies, procedures and frameworks that underpin and inform our service model.
  • An understanding of the purpose of our program and its contribution to the broader recovery journey of someone experiencing crisis in their lives.
  • Ability to work closely and collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience in providing recovery-orientated psychosocial support to vulnerable populations (e.g., people with a disability; children or young people; the elderly).
  • Diploma, degree or equivalent in a related field (e.g., mental health, social work).
