ABOUT THE ROLE

The Shift Supervisor - Peer Support provides guidance and support to ICLA peer support workers within our Recovery Programs, as well as coordinating and the delivery of eFriend teleconference sessions. The Peer Support Framework applied in our recovery programs takes a non-clinical approach to mental health and wellbeing, with our Peer Support Workers drawing on their lived experience in their provision of support. Our eFriend program is delivered virtually by our understanding peer support workers to adults who are feeling down, stressed, lonely, isolated, or worried. We value lived experience and believe peer support is a powerful part of the mental health recovery journey.

The roster is Monday – Friday, with shifts from late morning (11am-12.30pm starts) to evening (6.30am-8pm finishes), based out of our head office in Surry Hills, subject to Covid restrictions and measures. This role is a part time (35 hour week) on a fixed-term contract to 30.06.2022, remunerated at a base annual salary from $59,223 plus super and salary packaging.

Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing & leading daily operations of the eFriend Program including: allocating participants to peers & managing call schedules; maintaining call & break times; facilitating shift meetings; managing all communications during shift; and responding to program queries; to ensure the delivery of consistent quality service.
  • Providing support and management oversight for eFriend peers on shift and act as first point of escalation for any call concerns, risks and practice questions.
  • Deliver eFriend sessions, utilising lived experience and befriending skills when required.
  • Supporting the development of the Peer Support Workers through the induction, coaching & supervision of new peers, as well as providing ongoing coaching & guidance both individually and in small group sessions regarding practice & peer wellbeing.
  • Working with the Team Leader to build an engaged and accountable team, promoting a culture of openness and transparency.
  • Providing regular feedback to the Team Leader & Senior Manager to support continuous quality improvement, training and development, and support expansion of the eFriend program.
  • Conducting suicide risk screening with potential participants, identifying appropriate referral pathways, and upskilling experienced peer workers to perform.

ABOUT YOU

Required criteria:

  1. Experience relating to, engaging with, and providing support to people with lived experience of mental health issues
  2. Ability to utilise personal lived experience of mental health or suicide related crisis to provide peer support
  3. Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team to deliver outcomes
  4. Demonstrated planning and time management skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities
  5. Resilient and caring nature balanced by clear professional boundaries
  6. Excellent interpersonal engagement and communication skills (verbal & written
  7. Advanced IT skills, ability to work through a web-based platform and basic working ability with MS Office suite including Outlook, Word and Excel
  8. Strong understanding of peer support work and peer-to-peer debriefing procedures
  9. Ability to provide mentoring and guidance to other team members
  10. Ability to interpret and apply organisational policies and procedures
  11. Unrestricted right to work in Australia
  12. NDIS Worker Check (or willingness to obtain)

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in a Peer Support role
  • Previous leadership/management experience
  • Previous experience working with people who have mental health conditions, experienced trauma or are in distress
  • Diploma, degree or equivalent in a related field
