The Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) is seeking an experienced and talented Media and Stakeholder Engagement Specialist to support our Australia-based research team to pitch and publish reports, media releases and op eds on the energy and finance sectors, and further engagement with key decision-makers and influencers. This position is a remote work-based role and candidates may be located anywhere in Australia.

PRIMARY PURPOSE

The Media and Stakeholder Engagement Specialist will use their excellent media and communications skills to pitch IEEFA analysts and their research to local, national and international media. They will also identify and contact key target stakeholders for meetings and briefings with IEEFA analysts, and ensure target decision-makers and influencers are receiving IEEFA content.

The Media and Stakeholder Engagement Specialist will support IEEFA’s Australia-based analysts in building engaged audiences for their work through the media, social media and stakeholder outreach. A proactive approach and ‘can do’ attitude are vital to help increase the impact and timeliness of our work.

The successful candidate will have a strong knowledge about the media in Australia and globally, and must possess a commitment to IEEFA’s mission to accelerate the transition to a diverse, sustainable, and profitable energy economy. Headquartered in the United States, IEEFA has a significant portion of staff located across the Asia-Pacific region. The Media and Stakeholder Engagement Specialist will report to the Director of Strategic Communications, Australia/South Asia, working with our dynamic team of analysts and communications specialists based in Australia.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years’ experience working in a media/communications and stakeholder engagement role
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field
  • Exceptional media relations skills
  • Ability to write press releases about complex and technical subject matter so that the content of the release is accessible to a broad audience.
  • Experience in planning and posting social media content
  • Autonomous and organised, able to manage time and priorities effectively across competing demands
  • Able to work remotely while liaising with IEEFA analysts and the communications team locally and globally using online file sharing and video conferencing platforms.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office. Experience working in digital publishing suites is advantageous.
  • Media experience in finance, energy or a related field or working for a non-profit organisation is favourable.

Term and Schedule: Full time initial 12-month contract with the option of extension by mutual agreement. Remuneration based on experience.
