JOB DESCRIPTION

The IEUA WA Branch is seeking applications from highly motivated and experienced Union Organisers who can hit the ground running. Dedicated to developing a strong and powerful voice for IEU members, you will by empower them with the skills and support they need. Recruiting new members and delegates will be key to your role.

Experience in the education sector would be advantageous but not essential.

ABOUT THE IEUA WA BRANCH

The Independent Education Union of Australia WA Branch (IEUA WA Branch) represents the interests of employees in non-government education & training: Catholic, Anglican and Independent Schools, English Language Colleges and Registered Training Organisations across WA.

With almost 5000 members in 400 educational sites across Western Australia, the IEUA WA Branch provides industrial assistance, access to in-house and external professional learning resources and a strong voice within the sector.

The IEUA WA Branch is dedicated to supporting the collective interests of its members in the workplace and growing the movement.

The union seeks to grow its membership across these sectors with the goal of uniting members in seeking equity within the workplace. The union’s goal is to unite members with the aim of creating a place of safety, well-being, and financial security at work.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Engage with members to build sustainable union structures in the workplace, identifying potential members, activists, delegates, and workplace leaders
  • Collaborate with other staff, workplace leaders and delegates on strategies to ensure member growth, including liaising with potential members
  • Identify and assess the development needs of delegates, activists, and members, and provide ongoing support
  • Ensure that the Union’s values are upheld and promoted while remaining sensitive to our members’ unique workplace cultures and environments.
  • Identify member and workplace issues and formulate strategies to deal with them while empowering members with tools and support
  • Support, train and develop activists and delegates in the skills they need to perform their roles
  • Promote the benefits of union membership
  • Provide basic industrial advice to members in person and over the phone
  • Where appropriate, refer grievances and complex industrial issues to the Industrial Team
  • Flexibility to travel to regional schools and workplaces as required

REMUNERATION

An attractive remuneration package will be offered to the successful applicant, which will include:

  • Salary commensurate with demonstrated skills and experience.
  • A motor vehicle is provided.
  • 14.5% superannuation
  • 6 weeks annual leave plus 17.5% leave loading

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • A minimum of three years’ organising experience or in a role with a similar skill set.
  • A commitment to trade unions and the passion and drive to improve workers’ lives in line with the goals of the IEU.
  • Recruitment and organising skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication,
  • Negotiation and dispute resolution skills.
  • Experience in developing, educating, and motivating members, activists, and delegates.
  • Ability to plan, organise and prioritise work to achieve desired outcomes.

Commitment to, and willingness to participate in, the Union’s social justice agenda.

While not essential, previous experience in a role within the education sector would be advantageous.
