About us

Innari First Nations Homeless support provides an Aboriginal-Focused Specialist Homeless Support Service across the inner west and inner-city areas of Sydney. Our aim is to provide an individualised approach to every client interaction as we work holistically to support clients immediate housing needs and step them towards long term goals through responsive case management. We are a small organisation and value the personalised contributions of all staff.

About the Role

The Aboriginal Outreach worker will support rough sleepers across the inner west and inner-city areas of Sydney supporting their cultural, housing, health and family needs alongside with their reconnection to Community. Street-based outreach enables workers to respond directly and immediately to clients' needs by bringing services to clients rather than waiting for individuals to come to services on their own. This role includes some flexibility with hours worked designed to meet stakeholder needs and the nature of outreach work and can occasionally involve walking across the CBD area.

All equipment will be provided to perform your role including:

  • Mobile Phone
  • Laptop Computer and Ipad
  • All Travel reimbursement

A successful candidate will meet these essential requirements

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including a strong rapport with community and vulnerable individuals.
  • Experience working with or in Aboriginal Communities or within the Community Sector.
  • Demonstrated writing skills and ability to use computer-based software including MS Word and Outlook.
  • A willingness to travel across the metro area as needed.
  • Ability to be self-motivated in a flexible team environment.
  • Valid Driver’s Licence.

Also current or be willing to obtain prior to commencing employment:

  • National Police Clearance check
  • Working with Children Clearance.
  • First Aid Certificate

Not essential but would be great if you have:

  • Certificate 4 in Community Services or similar
  • Housing or Homelessness service support experience
  • Understanding of client needs around AOD, complex behaviours and people exiting correctional facilities
  • Existing community connections highly regarded
  • Those with lived experience are welcome to apply
