Main duties/responsibilities:

Managers at Inside Policy are the lynchpin to our mission to changing the world one policy at a time. The Manager, Evaluations will lead the successful delivery of our evaluation engagements with our government clients. Successful Managers are both competent delegators to their team and a trusted advisor to their clients.

In leading evaluations, the Manager will provide support and guidance to Project Directors on project and strategic risks, as well as supervising project team members to ensure that Inside Policy delivers projects on time and on budget, without compromising quality. The incumbent will supervise project team staff and report to the Director, working under general direction.

The Manager, Evaluation will:

  • Lead multiple evaluation projects across Inside Policy to ensure successful completion of all project activities and deliverables to a high-level of client satisfaction.
  • Manage project budgets including profit management, cost control, invoice management, and management of variances.
  • Manage project teams including allocating and managing team members to project tasks, providing team members with clear direction and feedback, engaging and coordinating subcontractors and staff to achieve project milestones.
  • Build and maintain client relationships including day-to-day contact with clients, proactive identification and resolution of project risks with the client, and seeking and responding constructively to client feedback.
  • Assure the quality of deliverables prepared by team members, contribute to strategic thinking and guidance on projects, lead client meetings, and manage key stakeholder relationships.
  • Provide team capacity updates to the broader management team.
  • Identify and provide evaluation findings and insights to project team members and clients.
  • Provide line management to junior members of the Inside Policy team.
  • Identify opportunities for new business and lead the development of proposals for new evaluation engagements.
  • Ensure project deliverables – including (but not limited to) project plans, evaluation frameworks, progress reports, and evaluation reports – are consistently high quality.
  • Develop and deliver both written and verbal reports on project progress and outcomes.
  • Other tasks as required from time to time.

Skills and experience:

  • Minimum of three years of demonstrable experience in designing, undertaking, and reporting on evaluations.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience working in consulting, academic, government, and/or not-for-profit environments.
  • Evaluation, policy, program, or service delivery experience in family violence, Indigenous economic development, and/or disability services.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong project management experience.
  • Excellent client relationship management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a variety of evaluation approaches and frameworks including theory-based, realist evaluation, participatory evaluation methods, and contribution analysis.
  • Strong appetite for learning new/different evaluation methods, frameworks, and approaches.
  • Demonstrated capability to maintain professionalism and integrity.
  • Ability to quickly acquire new knowledge across a range of policy areas.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Member of the Australian Evaluation Society or willingness to become a member.
