This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and skilled Counsellor, who is passionate about providing advocacy and support services to anyone who is engaging with or affected by the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability ('the Disability Royal Commission').

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Become part of a close knit, highly skilled team of counsellors, providing person-centred practice in this unique role supporting individuals, their families and carers affected by the Disability Royal Commission. Your extensive experience in trauma informed counselling and case management will see you succeed in this exciting role. With your knowledge of self-care and being self-aware you are supported within a safe environment that includes regular peer supervision and debriefing. This role in the Disability Royal Commission Comprehensive Support Service supports a broad range of clients with disabilities and your caring and compassionate nature will see you thrive in this position.

This is a Fixed Term Full Time OR Part Time Contract until 22 December 2023. The hours are a minimum of 30 per week and the days and hours of work are negotiable.

The service will offer face to face delivery as well as phone and online counselling and will be based in our Hamilton office. This role will require some travel to meet with clients in the community or residential settings. The use of your own personal vehicle will also be required if a pool car is not available. All kilometres will be reimbursed when using your own personal vehicle.

As this position requires you to provide in person services and work within an office you are required to be fully vaccinated and stay up to date with vaccines to comply with Interrelates vaccination policy.

This role will:

  • Work within a framework of trauma informed care and service delivery
  • Provide trauma informed counselling services to people that have been affected by the Royal Commission that are accessible, client focused and meet the needs of people with a disability, their families and carers
  • Provide supportive referrals to legal support services, advocates, financial support services, counselling and psychological care providers
  • Refer to or collaborate with appropriate services to provide social and practical support to clients such as housing, health, mental health, financial and aged care services in order to meet the critical needs of the individual

This role is SCHADS award Level 6, hourly rate $50.64.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology and/or Behavioural or Social Science and counselling is essential.
  2. A minimum of 2 years' demonstrated experience in the provision of trauma informed practice model counselling and clinical support services to individuals who have experienced trauma within a violence, abuse, neglect or exploitation context.
  3. Demonstrated understanding of the impact on individuals and their families of violence, abuse, neglect or exploitation and the skills required in working therapeutically with these individuals
  4. Demonstrated understanding of cross-cultural issues in providing services to individuals, families and communities who have experienced violence, abuse, neglect or exploitation
  5. Capacity to engage in reflective practice and take responsibility for proactive self-care
  6. Demonstrated ability to provide education and information sessions to community members
