inTouch Multicultural Centre Against Family Violence provides services, programs and responses to issues of family violence in refugee and multicultural communities.

By acknowledging the rights and diverse experiences of our clients, we develop and implement a number of culturally sensitive and holistic models for the provision of services to both victims and perpetrators of family violence.

In tackling the issues of family violence, we act on multiple levels – individual, relationship and community.

Position Summary

The Policy Officer plays a significant role in supporting the policy work of inTouch through research, analysis, consultation and the development of responses to emerging policy issues for migrant and refugee communities in issues of family violence. The incumbent will work closely with the Manager, Legal and Policy and all staff inTouch, drawing on their expertise and experience. She will ensure that emerging issues for multicultural communities are documented and advocacy plans developed.

Key Selection Criteria

Essential:

  • Tertiary or post-graduate qualification in Social Policy, Social Research, Social Work, Community Development or related field; 
  • Minimum two year’s work experience in Policy or Social Research 
  • Ability to undertake research, plan reports, submissions, and draft position papers. 
  • Demonstrated well-developed interpersonal and stakeholder management skills. 
  • Sound understanding of the issues facing women subjected to family violence from migrant and refugee backgrounds; 
  • High-level verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively to a range of diverse audiences. 

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of the Victorian family violence landscape including current family violence reforms. 
  • Knowledge of a second language would be advantageous
