About Us

The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH) leads the development, planning and deliver of comprehensive primary health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in South East Queensland.

The Aged Care and Disability Services team aims to provide support services to help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people over the age of 50 or living with a significant and/or permanent disability to be more independent and to actively participate in their communities. We have locations across the South East Queensland region including, North Brisbane, South Brisbane, Caboolture, Sunshine Coast, Gympie and Hervey Bay/Maryborough.

About the Role:

As a Community Support Worker in our Zillmere team, you will be providing domestic and social support to our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders eligible aged members within the North Brisbane and Zillmere area. The role will require you to perform in accordance with Client Care plans and the Community Care Common Standards. The successful applicant will be joining a diverse support team who thrive in supporting our elders in their homes.

  • Ability to assist with general client care, including undertake personal care, domestic assistance, social support, respite, meals and transport activities
  • Encouraging and supporting the independence for our elders to remain in their own home
  • Providing a tailored service to our clients in line with their care plan

About You

  • Minimum Certificate III in Aged Care / Individual Support / Community Care
  • Demonstrated skillset to community effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders
  • An understanding of the health and social issues impacting upon indigenous people in the area
  • Experience in providing personal care assistance to clients in their homes, according to their care plans (e.g. bathing, showering, grooming, nutrition, oral hygiene)
  • Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD)
  • Current Criminal History Check
  • Current First Aid Certificate & CPR Certificates
  • Reliable vehicle with proof of registration

Desirable, but not mandatory:

  • Previous experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and /or communities
  • Current Yellow Card (Willing to obtain)
