Who is IUIH?

The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH) leads the development, planning and delivery of comprehensive primary health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in South East Queensland. We have innovative programs including Birthing in Our Communities (BiOC) which has recently been recognised for achieving significant improvements in pre-term birth rates and antenatal care. We have a fierce commitment to meeting ‘Closing the Gap’ targets and have been nationally acknowledged for providing Australia’s first Indigenous Fever Clinic in response to the Covid-19 outbreak.

The Family Health and Wellbeing team is responsible for supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families in South East Queensland with the following services: Legal, Social health, Birthing and early childhood (BiOC and ANFPP), Early Childhood education (Deadly Kindies) Family Wellbeing, Paediatric Occupational and Speech pathology

About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an Occupational Therapist to join the IUIH team within a paediatric or mixed adult and paediatric caseload. In this role, you will be providing individual therapy and/or group programs designed to support clients through developmental programs and OT interventions as needed.

What does it look like to be an IUIH Occupational Therapist?

  • Work collaboratively within an interprofessional team of health care professionals including Speech Pathologists, Physio, EP, Paed Nurse, GP, AHW, Paediatricians and more
  • Access to culturally tailored, evidence-based assessment tools exclusive to the IUIH network and service delivery in a yarn based approach
  • Capability to develop both Adult and Paediatric skills by maintaining a caseload across the lifespan
  • Opportunities to develop your skills in areas of interest within the scope of IUIH Occupational Therapy services provided under Medicare and NDIS models of service delivery
  • Opportunities to contribute to health service development including resources, tools, screeners, and service development
  • Commitment to the philosophy and practice of Aboriginal Community Control

About You

  • Current C Class Driver’s License (QLD) and willingness to travel
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and self-starter capabilities
  • Relevant degree in Occupational Therapy
  • AHPRA Registration

Desirable, but not mandatory:

  • Previous experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and /or communities
