Jamie Parker is the first Green MP elected to the Legislative Assembly in NSW. Our small, passionate Electorate Office team work to support the MP in fast paced, high demand environment.

We provide exceptional one-on-one support to constituents as well as building good relationships with organisations and stakeholders to advance the Greens principles of social and economic justice, environmental sustainability, grassroots democracy and non-violence.

About the position

The electorate office of Balmain is the direct link to NSW State Parliament for local constituents, advocating on their behalf to various government and non-government agencies to deliver progressive, inclusive outcomes for the whole community.

The primary focus of the Electorate Officer is to lead community campaigns, in line with the priorities of the office and to ensure that constituents are informed and engaged with the work of the Member.

The Electorate Officer is responsible for managing and maintaining our constituent database, leading constituent outreach, as well as providing administrative support to the Member and Senior Electorate Officers.

The role requires some after hours and weekend work for which an annual All Incidence of Employment Allowance is paid. While this full-time position, we will accept applications from people interested in part-time work.

Key responsibilities

  • Devise, oversee and implement a community engagement strategy to build, mobilise and empower a network of residents across the electorate of Balmain;
  • Identify opportunities for new community campaigns and constituent engagement;
  • Maintain and develop a database of stakeholders and community contacts;
  • Assist with constituent relations including face-to-face interactions, phone liaison and drafting of written correspondence;
  • Coordinate local events and community engagement opportunities on behalf of the Member;
  • Support the production of internal and external communications and publications and distribution of communication materials; and
  • Provide administrative support to the Member and Senior Electorate Officers.

Selection criteria


  • Excellent computer skills including experience working with or managing a database such as NationBuilder or Voter ID, and proficiency in Microsoft Office;
  • Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to respectfully interact with constituents, liaise with community groups, government and non-government organisations.
  • Strong writing skills including the ability to prepare formal correspondence, briefing notes and communication materials;
  • Demonstrated superior organisational skills to work effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated capacity to exercise sound judgement, ability to deal with sensitive and confidential issues, while performing at a high standard under limited supervision and within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the core principles of the Greens and an interest in, and understanding of, the Australian political context and Australian parliamentary procedures and processes.


  • Knowledge of the inner west and the key issues that impact our local area;
  • Familiarity with community outreach tools including Call Hub;
  • Experience in use of social media, websites and digital communication tools;
  • Experience managing volunteers; and
  • Experience in community organising or event co-ordination.
