The National Heart Foundation (Heart Foundation) is seeking an outstanding candidate to manage their public affairs activities including government relations and advocacy, media and the Heart Foundation’s presence in each State and Territory. The position is responsible for leading and facilitating the effective use of local resources and relationships to ensure a respected and influential local presence is linked to national strategy and priorities, and information sharing.

Reporting to the CEO and as a member of the leadership team you will build and maintain effective relationships with governments, agencies, and relevant bodies to ensure impactful policy and legislative outcomes. You will manage stakeholder relations effectively to ensure programs and activities entered into are relevant to core business and position the Heart Foundation as a ‘trusted voice of heart health’.

The successful candidate will be committed to the Heart Foundation vision, mission and values and have sound knowledge of the not-for-profit sector, including non-government health organisations. Working effectively with Advisory Boards and Committees, honoraries and volunteers, you will have exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships internally and externally. With demonstrated skills in influence and advocacy, you will provide people leadership, mentoring, coaching and direction to align all employees with the strategic plan. Experience in government, policy and/or public office is required.

Tertiary qualifications or demonstrated equivalent experience in a relevant business discipline.

The role can be located in any capital city in Australia.

For over 60 years, the Heart Foundation has been the trusted peak body working to improve heart disease prevention, detection, and support for all Australians. Since 1959 the NHF have funded research projects worth over $670 million, including $17.2 million in 2020.

Every day, the Heart Foundation supports Australians when they need it most, speaks out on behalf of the community on heart heath issues, empowers people to reduce their disease risk, and works with health professionals and researchers to find new ways to better manage and treat heart health. The work has had a major impact on the survival rates of those suffering a heart attack and those living with heart disease, however coronary heart disease is still Australia’s number one killer, taking 50 lives every day.
