The Organisation:

Part of Court Services Victoria, the Children’s Court of Victoria (ChCV) is a specialist court that hears cases involving the care and protection, and criminal offending, of children and young people. The ChCV operates across several metropolitan and regional locations.

The Clinic is an independent body which conducts assessments and provides reports on children and their families at the request of Children’s Court magistrates across Victoria. It also has a small treatment function in selected cases and is a teaching facility. The Clinic employs highly skilled clinicians who have specialist knowledge in the areas of child protection and youth offending.

The Position:

Leading a team of clinical and forensic psychologists and overseeing the work of contracted sessional clinicians, the Director, Children’s Court Clinic is responsible for the effective and efficient operations of the Clinic and for the maintenance of high-quality clinical standards and practice.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer of the ChCV, the key accountabilities include:

  • Overseeing the delivery of high quality clinical services in the Children’s Court Clinic.
  • Ensuring the Clinic’s operational resources – its budget, staff and built environment – are deployed to achieve high value and cost-effective outcomes.
  • Allocating cases to, and leading the supervision, training and performance management of, clinical staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality clinical practice.
  • Allocating cases to and overseeing the work of contracted sessional clinicians performing fee for service work for the Clinic including the maintenance of effective quality assurance mechanisms.
  • Coordinating the development and implementation of state-wide policies, standards and systems to facilitate the delivery of Clinic services and services in line with organisational requirements and strategic and business plan objectives.
  • Developing plans, policies, program development documents, briefs, reports and submissions relevant to the Clinic’s operations.
  • Developing linkages and maintaining and enhancing key relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Conducting clinical assessments of children and submitting reports to the Court as the need arises

The Person:

To be considered for this wonderful opportunity it is essential you hold a Doctorate in Clinical and/or Forensic Psychology and have demonstrated experience in clinical and/or forensic psychological practice with children, youth and families.
