About the program

YJCSS provides intensive support and case management to young people, 10-21 years, engaged with the Youth Justice system in Victoria. This service operates over 7 days between the hours of 7.00 am and 10.30 pm.

YJCSS aims to;

  • reduce the rate, severity and frequency of re-offending by young people and minimise their progression into the criminal justice system
  • better service young people in their local communities and facilitate their transition from the Youth Justice service system to their local community service system.
  • better prepare young people for adulthood by developing their independence, resilience and pro-social connectedness to family and community
  • develop young people’s capacity for meaningful educational and economic participation.

Jesuit Social Services leads the delivery of YJCSS across metropolitan Melbourne in consortium with other agencies.

About the role

YJCSS-North West is based at the Brosnan Centre in Brunswick and provides extensive outreach support to young people and their families in the North and West Metropolitan Regions. The two positions are with the day team, which operates Monday-Friday 9am-5pm however, flexibility is needed to respond outside of these hours.

Candidate Requirements

This role will suit a candidate with the following skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated skills and experience in working effectively with young people experiencing complex issues that may result in offending behaviour.
  • Knowledge and understanding of CALD communities and services and the capacity to work in a culturally competent manner.
  • Experience in, and/or knowledge of, the Youth Justice and Adult Justice system and relevant Legislation.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and productive arrangements with Government and non-Government stakeholders.
  • A practice framework that is evidence based, along with a sound knowledge of service responses and interventions that impact positively on a young person’s development.
  • Ability to advocate for access to services on behalf of young people involved in the Justice system.
  • Familiarity with the North and West Metropolitan region, including knowledge of the local service networks
  • A current Driver’s Licence and valid Working with Children Check.
