Role:

Jungarni-Jutiya Indigenous Corporation’s vision is to enable the people of Halls Creek and surrounding communities to grow better and stronger families. Financial Counsellors do this by supporting families and individuals to make informed choices and take control of their financial situation. They also provide valuable support to the community in addressing systemic issues.

Main Duties/Responsibilities:

Provide assessment and financial counselling services to clients

  • Provide a non-discriminatory and confidential full time financial counselling service to families and individuals living in town of Halls Creek within the framework of Jungarni’s philosophy; service strategies and FCAWA framework and relevant PEAK bodies who present or are referred to Jungarni-Jutiya.
  • The counsellor is responsible for providing support, assistance, casework and referral services to clients in the management of their individual financial circumstances in Halls Creek
  • Accessing client’s current financial position
  • Providing clients with appropriate financial information to enable them to make informed decisions about their current financial position.
  • Advocate on behalf of client with service providers e.g. Horizon Power, Water Corporation, Landlords etc.
  • Provide follow up support to clients receiving financial counselling
  • Refer clients to other appropriate services as required
  • Provide budgeting and practical steps to relieve financial stress and pressure.
  • Information about debt recovery process and court system in relation to debt recovery.

Selection Criteria:

  • Excellent record in providing quality financial counselling to vulnerable clients.
  • Knowledge of the types of Financial Counselling interventions, information, advocacy and support appropriate for clients.
  • Knowledge of relevant State and Federal credit, debt and social security legislation.
  • Experience in working with vulnerable and disadvantaged members of the community and an understanding of the effects of trauma for individuals and families.
  • Demonstrated ability to link into support services and resources for people with complex needs and in financial hardship.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively within a team environment
  • Evidence of advocacy or consumer education initiatives.
  • High level written (case notes, letter writing) and verbal skills with strong interpersonal communication abilities.

Qualifications and other requirements:

  • Diploma of Community Services (Financial Counselling) or Diploma of Financial Counselling.
  • Current full member of the relevant state financial counselling peak body.
  • The successful candidate will be required to satisfactorily complete a National Police Records Check and a Working with Children Check.
  • A current driver's licence is required as the role may involve travel to remote communities.
