KCLS is a reflective, community- and client-oriented practice, working closely with predominantly Aboriginal client communities. We serve our clients from offices in Kununurra and Broome, with regular outreach to all major towns across the region, and periodic visits to many other communities on country.

about the role

We are seeking a full-time Solicitor to join our Broome team. As a solicitor you will assist clients with a wide range of civil and family law matters, including tenancy, child protection, family violence, credit and debt, public benefits, compensation and redress claims, and others. You will work closely with our client advocates, who provide intensive support to clients with complex elder abuse and family violence support needs. You will conduct outreach across the West Kimberley, and will also work with the team on community education and systemic reform projects.

The successful applicant will ideally have some experience in civil and/or family legal practice, and must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Experience in remote settings and with Aboriginal communities is a strong plus. The applicant will be committed to meeting the needs of the most disadvantaged in the community, will have the ability to engage clients with empathy, and will be comfortable acting in remote environments.

This is a full-time appointment.

Salary: competitive salary package comparable to similar roles in government, depending on experience. Attractive salary sacrifice arrangements available. Generous leave, including five weeks annual leave. Relocation assistance available.
