POSITION SUMMARY:

The Regional Fire Officer is responsible supporting Indigenous Ranger Groups to develop, plan and implement fire management activities including on-ground and aerial operations, landscape scale ecological fire management and asset and cultural site protection burns. Fire management is conducted in collaboration with stakeholders across the Kimberley in order to conserve, protect and conserve native vegetation and species in collaboration with traditional methodologies and contemporary practices, mitigating risks and empowering Traditional Owners and rangers.

As part of a tight knit team, and supervised by the Strategic Fire Operations Officer, the position will provide on-ground assistance & on-the-job training to Indigenous Ranger Groups for both aerial and ground burning, as well as supporting fire planning, compliance, community & stakeholder liaison.

LOCATION and DELIVERY:

The position operates out of Broome KLC office, but requires extensive seasonal travel throughout the Kimberley, particularly during the prescribed burning season March – July.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

This role will be negotiated as a KLC level 5-6 dependent on relevant qualifications and experience. Superannuation of 9% and additional salary allowances including district allowance, rental assistance where applicable, salary sacrificing options and 5 weeks annual leave.
