Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation's (AKKF) purpose is to empower young people (aged between 8 - 18 years) to thrive beyond the impacts of mental illness. We make a difference in the lives of the young people we support, through our age-based, recreational, early intervention programs.

The opportunity 

Reporting to the CEO and working as a key member of our Senior Leadership Team, you be responsible for:

  • Leading by clinical excellence, you will oversee our Clinical Services function, ensuring our Clinical Services are aligned to our clinical philosophies, with a key focus on supporting young people to thrive beyond the impacts of family mental illness.
  • Providing clinical oversight of our programs and program delivery, including clinical supervision on programs.
  • Responsible for assessing and reporting on any clinical risk areas to the CEO and partnering with the CEO to devise strategies of mitigation.
  • Managing the intake and ongoing support processes for our young people, ensuring the intake and review processes, are conducted efficiently and effectively.
  • Working with our AKKF team to develop, plan, and deliver relevant training (i.e., mental health training), for our staff, Volunteers, and Clinical Consultants, ensuring relevancy for each target group and alignment with evidence-based best practice.
  • Providing guidance on the mental health literacy content within our programs; including the development of manuals, policies, procedures, ensuring relevance for each group and evidence-based best practice.
  • Management of our Clinical Service team, including the recruitment, coordination, and supervision of Clinical Consultants.
  • Oversee third party consultants/contractors providing research and evaluation services.
  • Participate in our programs (both face-to-face and online), with a focus on providing continuous improvement to the clinical areas of the business.

About you

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have a passion for making a difference in the lives of young people.
  • Have a postgraduate study in Nursing, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or Psychology with current AHPRA registration, or mental health endorsement if a Social Worker.
  • Meet the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency’s requirements for Continuing Professional Development and Supervision.
  • Demonstrated experience (at least 5 years) in Mental Health, with recent experience in Child and Adolescent Mental Health.
  • Proven clinical leadership skills, expertise in client-centred consultancy and commitment to excellence in clinical practice. With advanced skills in assessment, treatment and care planning of child and adolescent mental health and family relationships.
  • Previous management experience, with the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage with and build a rapport with a variety of audiences.
  • Be self-motivated, with a positive, can-do, adaptable, attitude and approach.
  • High standard of professionalism, confidentiality, and discretion.
  • Strong communication skills (including written, oral, and virtual).
  • To perform the full extent of this role, you must be able and willing, to travel and have the ability to work outside usual business hours.
