We are seeking an experienced Men’s Practitioner to deliver dedicated clinical and cultural services to Aboriginal Men and families allocated to the KWY service based in the Western metropolitan region of Adelaide.

The successful applicant will possess skills, experience and knowledge in working with Aboriginal people to address Child Protection and Domestic and Family Violence concerns. The KWY Men’s Practitioner will operate within a therapeutic, trauma informed framework. The applicant would have demonstrated knowledge of counselling, crisis intervention, and working in a statutory environment or community. 

The role sits within a specialised team which is responsible for the implementation of a holistic, culturally informed, therapeutic case management model. The applicant will have strong communication skills to ensure the day-to-day liaison with clients and relevant government and non-government stakeholders, pertinent to the delivery of the program.   

Qualifications and training required:

  • A degree in Social Work, Social Sciences, Community Services, Human Services or Health Sciences, and can demonstrate relevant experience with the position. 

  • Strong understanding of Narrative Principles of practice with emphasis on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities. 

  • Knowledge of issues pertaining to homelessness, addiction, and mental health. 

  • Sound understanding of the child protection system and family well-being work. 

  • Hold critical response skills to family/adult/child/youth-based crisis situations.  

  • Demonstrated knowledge of domestic and family violence including the social and gendered context and principles and philosophies of practice. 

  • A comprehensive understanding of the impact of family violence on women and children 

  • Demonstrated skills and experience in group work, including facilitating Men’s Behaviour Change group programs. 

  • Experience in the provision of complex case management
