The Kimberley Stolen Generation Aboriginal Corporation is a community-owned and controlled organisation that consists of members of the Stolen Generations and their families from the Kimberley region of Western Australia. The corporation offers activities, projects, and services that acknowledge the experiences of members of the Stolen Generations and help them come to terms with it. The corporation has a Link-Up Service that organises family reunification and other reunions and activities for people of the Stolen Generation across the Kimberley. KSGAC provides support services to victims of Institutional Child Sexual Abuse through the Redress Scheme.
KSGAC has been engaged by the Department of Social Services to provide free, trauma-informed, culturally appropriate targeted counselling support for First Nations Peoples with a disability, their families and carers. The delivery of these services will be primarily in person.
This role will provide counselling and support to Stolen Generation members and clients, utilising sound and culturally appropriate counselling techniques and methodologies. The candidates must be experienced counsellors with the right attitude to work within a small organisation and with traumatised and severely affected clients. You must also have an understanding of the removal policies that affected members of the Stolen Generation and experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and in a community based, not for profit organisation.
This position is subject to funding via the National Link-up program and anticipate being able to offer a 12 month full time contract at this point in time.
