The Role

We are seeking to employ an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person to fill the position of Cultural Facilitator to; assist and facilitate informed and respectful staff engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and organisations, build capacity of staff to provide culturally responsive and inclusive learning and working environments, advocate for self-determination and community control in determining the cultural knowledges and expertise shared in KU, and actively promote and guide the implementation of KU’s Statement of Commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and steering KU’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Framework.

This is a permanent, part-time position, up to 32 hours per week. We are interested in applicants who can be based in Sydney, Melbourne or other suitable locations.

To be considered for this role the following are essential:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Early Childhood Education or other relevant discipline
  • Experience in working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, young children, families and communities

Demonstrated experience and a professional level in:

  • Teaching and/or training development and delivery
  • Building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Working effectively with all members of a team
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Applying and using intermediate computer skills
  • Knowledge of child protection legislation and its implications for the care and protection of children
  • Knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety legislation and safety issues relating to children and staff
  • Working with Children Check number

Applicants must:

  • Be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent; and
  • Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander; and
  • Be known and accepted by their community as being an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.

Applicants may be required to provide evidence to confirm that they are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. Evidence may include:

  • A letter signed and executed by the Chairperson of an incorporated Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander organisation confirming that they are recognised as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person, or
  • A confirmation of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent form executed by an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander organisation
