We are seeking a data analyst (graduate / early career position) to join the team part time or on a flexible basis, mostly working from home. Requires someone with data analytics and/or business analysis experience. May suit someone looking for part time work from home (e.g. while raising children or completing studies). The Data Analyst job is for 20 hours per week for an initial 6 month contract, with potential for a longer term position after that. Salary to be negotiated based on experience.

What will you do?

  • Data cleaning and management - taking raw datasets from client databases and ‘cleaning’ the data to enable quality analysis, and managing the flow and connections of dashboards to client databases
  • Data analysis - looking for patterns in data (e.g. client and demographic data, service delivery and outcomes data) and producing charts and dashboards and insights from that data
  • Design of surveys and data capture - including qualitative and quantitative work and client interviews
  • Development of data dashboards for clients - drawing on client databases, writing queries for accessing databases, designing dashboards of relevant service user data (e.g. demographics, program delivery, outcomes) that are collected by social service organisations
  • Use machine learning tools to analyse and find patterns in data applied to practical operational and strategic issues faced by social service organisations (solid skills in data analysis are enough, you will be able to learn the machine learning tools on the job)
  • Moderating online innovation platforms for social problem solving
  • Participate in solution sessions where we work out a strategy or program design
  • We will teach you the management consulting method (McKinsey method) for analysing and developing recommendations, and support your learning about data analysis and dashboards

Skills and interest requirements

  • Excellent numeracy and data skills - competence with spreadsheets, using and analysing data, statistics (may be from financial, business analysis, data science or science background)
  • Strong reasoning and analytical skills
  • Solid communication skills - written and verbal
  • Experience with using dashboarding tools - e.g. one or more of Power BI, Google Data Studio, Tableau, Quicksight or Salesforce
  • Technical proficiency regarding database design development, data models, techniques for data mining, and segmentation
  • Knowledge of programming languages (Python) and familiarity with database technologies and tools (SQL, NoSQL)
  • Interest in addressing social problems or experience working in the social sector
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Self-driven (working with a small team - two Directors - with supervision from our Senior Data Advisor)
  • Flexible and adaptable - each project is different covering range of data areas and systems
  • Interest in driving innovation and delivering high standard work

Examples of current projects we are working on which you could be involved with:

  • Aboriginal Employment: development of Social Impact Bond for a consortium supporting Aboriginal people in NSW;
  • Homelessness - strategy for identifying needs and addressing complex, long-term homelessness challenges in the Northern Territory;
  • Mental health - design of data system for continuous improvement of residential mental health services for those exiting psychiatric care;
  • Youth educational disengagement - Social Impact Bond and data / analysis for improving educational and health outcomes for young people who have dropped out of school early; &
  • Alcohol - strategy and product development for digital-based alcohol prevention organisation.
