What you'll do

We are currently seeking a passionate Support Worker to join our dedicated team at Sumner House. This is currently being operated as a COVID-19 Isolation and Recovery Facility (CIRF) for people experiencing homelessness. The site accommodates persons who are required to isolate due to having a COVID positive diagnosis.

Soon the site will be transitioning to the Better Health and Housing Program which will provide support to people who are experiencing both homelessness and chronic health conditions in an effort to stabilise both their health and housing through an integrated model of support.

Support Workers provide a safe and supportive environment to clients, providing consideration of the residents' individual and diverse needs whilst encouraging the residents' independence, empowerment, autonomy and dignity. The role will be based in Fitzroy.

What you'll bring

It is expected that the successful candidate will bring:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in human services, social work or other related disciplines
  • Experience in the delivery of support services to people with complex needs relating to homelessness
  • Demonstrated understanding of housing and homelessness policy, context and systems
  • Experience in the homelessness sector
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others towards effective client solutions
  • Experience in responding to critical incidents and emergency procedures including defusing client behaviour
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships and communicate with people of diverse backgrounds and abilities
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
