Legal Counsel Commercial & Workplace Relations

The Lost Dogs' Home

ABOUT US

The Lost Dogs' Home (LDH) is proud to be Australia's largest animal shelter, helping thousands of lost and abandoned animals each year. We are a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing outstanding veterinary care to animals who find their way to us.

ABOUT THE ROLE

In this unique role, you will be expected to provide high value, strategic legal and business advice across LDH.

This role requires a current practicing certificate and previous experience providing advice in respect to a broad variety of commercial projects, transactions and initiatives connected to the broader business operations. In addition, the role is responsible for matters relating to workplace relations and employees including employment or engagement arrangements, investigations, policy, and disputed matters.

The role is extremely varied, and no two days are the same. On a typical day, you might work on anything from commercial contracts to employment matters, social media issues, property law, drafting correspondence and policies, handling dispute resolution, and everything in-between. Responding to urgent matters and putting out fires is a key feature of the role, which means the successful candidate will be comfortable working in a flexible and agile manner. There are also plenty of opportunities to work on special projects in support of overall business objectives and to act as a trusted advisor to the CEO and Executive team.

This role will:

  • Provide accurate, practical, timely and legal advice on issues and disputes.
  • Draft and review contracts and agreements and legal correspondence in respect to all legal and commercial business matters.
  • Proactively identifying and act on current and future business risks.
  • Establish and maintain strong and effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support regulatory and other business projects.
  • Manage and or conduct investigations.
  • Coach and train managers and team leaders on workplace relations, safety, or other legal related matters.

The position reports to the Director People & Culture.
