The Lost Dogs' Home (LDH) is proud to be Australia's largest animal shelter, helping thousands of lost and abandoned animals each year. We are a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing outstanding veterinary care to animals who find their way to us.
In this unique role, you will be expected to provide high value, strategic legal and business advice across LDH.
This role requires a current practicing certificate and previous experience providing advice in respect to a broad variety of commercial projects, transactions and initiatives connected to the broader business operations. In addition, the role is responsible for matters relating to workplace relations and employees including employment or engagement arrangements, investigations, policy, and disputed matters.
The role is extremely varied, and no two days are the same. On a typical day, you might work on anything from commercial contracts to employment matters, social media issues, property law, drafting correspondence and policies, handling dispute resolution, and everything in-between. Responding to urgent matters and putting out fires is a key feature of the role, which means the successful candidate will be comfortable working in a flexible and agile manner. There are also plenty of opportunities to work on special projects in support of overall business objectives and to act as a trusted advisor to the CEO and Executive team.

You will have high level analytical and critical legal decision-making capabilities. Your ability to deeply integrate your legal advice into business strategy and LDH’s risk tolerance is a highly desirable skill. You will be a skilled trouble-shooter who is proactive about finding solutions to problems, and not afraid to take a hands-on approach.
As a standalone in-house legal counsel, you will be comfortable taking control of your own workload and working with minimal direction. From time-to-time you will have to chase people for the information you need and effectively collaborate with them to deliver business outcomes. You will be commercially focused and capable of managing varied and conflicting workloads and priorities.
