The Opportunity

The Leukaemia Foundation is on an exciting transformation journey to deliver greater impact to our key stakeholders and the Australian community.

As a Blood Cancer Support Coordinator, you will apply your relevant skills and experience to contribute to; the development of strategies, assist in the implementation of initiatives and deliver services that have a positive impact on those living with and beyond a blood cancer.

This is a 12 month part-time position, which may require the successful applicant to work from home in some capacity, however there will be times when this role will be required to deliver services and support people in the community. This position can be based out of Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie or Lismore.

In this role you will make a significant difference to people in the blood cancer community, working collaboratively with team members to deliver a tailored service to people living with blood cancer and their families. You will provide high level emotional support to people living with blood cancer, assist individuals with their needs and provide advice on how to navigate the health and other associated systems.

Our team of Blood Cancer Support Coordinators come from a variety of different tertiary backgrounds including; Nursing, Allied Health, Social Work/Counselling, Primary/community health development, Health Promotion and Project Management, Social Sciences, and Medicine. Although a post graduate qualification and or experience with Blood Cancer pathophysiology and clinical treatment is favourable, we will happily upskill the right candidate with strengths in other areas.

Essential criteria

In addition to the relevant tertiary level qualification, we are looking for the following:

  • Experience providing supportive care either around cancer care within a hospital or community environment, or experience with other chronic diseases.
  • Sound practical understanding of the Australian health care system.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; communicating effectively with health professionals and members of the community.
  • Ability to build and maintain professional relationships and working effectively within a team.
  • Sound computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Excel, databases and a sound knowledge of internet practice
  • A current driver's licence and access to own vehicle needed (travel reimbursement is available)
  • A valid working with children and vulnerable people clearance or the willingness to apply for one if appointed to the role

Desired criteria

  • Experience in providing supportive care/health interventions via telehealth/virtual platforms
