About the role:

  • 2x Fixed Term (12-month contract) opportunities
  • Based at our Sydney CBD office (currently remote)

The Community Connections Consultant role is a critical role within the Project Management Office. This role is responsible for working with a broad range of stakeholders towards outcomes for improved mental health and wellbeing in communities. This role within the NSW Health Collaborative Program holds a strong focus on building the mental health literacy and capacity of communities in NSW in prevention, detection, and response to risk vulnerabilities, with particular focus on suicide risk.

The NSW Health Collaborative Program, in partnership with Headspace provides experienced resources across NSW to support the coordination of local and national agencies to implement a collective impact collaboration model, working alongside Local Health Districts, Primary Health Networks, and existing key local agencies including local councils.

About you:

The Lifeline Community Connection Consultant will be a qualified professional with experience in influencing change and working in collaborative partnerships with a broad range of stakeholders. The incumbent will possess an understanding of mental health issues including suicide postvention, suicide and trauma. The position calls for a motivated individual who can engage, liaise, and negotiate with a broad range of stakeholders and organisations.

  • A tertiary qualification in education (including qualification in adult education), public health promotion, community development and/or mental health, or equivalent combination of relevant training and experience;
  • Significant experience in influencing change and working in collaborative partnerships with school leadership teams and/or education authorities, local community agencies and other stakeholders;
  • Working knowledge of the common social and mental health issues faced by young people and experienced by school communities, including suicide postvention, suicide, self-harm and trauma;
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work and interact with a broad range of people, including school principals and leaders, teachers, health professionals, academic researchers, service providers, etc;
  • Highly developed communication skills, both verbal and written, with experience writing for, and presenting to, diverse audiences;
  • Experience in project implementation and/or project management;
  • Strong organisational and computer skill;
  • Ability to work in a highly productive environment with time pressures while managing multiple tasks;
  • A current driver’s licence;
  • Able and willing to travel with overnight stays as required;
  • At least intermediate general computer skills including MS Office and SharePoint.

Desirable:

  • Experience in working in a community development framework and approach;
  • Experience in program development and/or training and delivery to a broad range of community members.
