Lifeplan is a respected disability service provider improving the safety and quality of life of the people we support in Perth, Western Australia.

Lifeplan provides a range of supports, including supporting independent living and community participation.

The Board is seeking expressions of interest from those interested in governance and a passion for ensuring quality in the lives of people living with disability.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Board sets Lifeplan’s strategic direction, monitors adherence to regulatory requirements and its financial performance and advises our CEO and Executive Management team.

Board members contribute to improving the lives of the people we support by raising awareness of sector challenges and by advancing best practice in providing quality support.

CORE BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES

Lifeplan is governed by Western Australian legislation and its support activities are governed by a range of other legislative schemes, including the National Disability Insurance Scheme, Western Australian disability rights legislation and standards set by the Western Australian Department of Health.

As a new board member you will be supported to understand and develop your role and responsibilities in governing a not-for-profit disability provider.

  • Integrity in performing your role, ensuring you understand the key issues of the organisation and can support strategic decision-making.

DESIRABLE CHARACTERISTICS

Lifeplan is seeking a board member to fill the position of Company Secretary. Knowledge or experience of governance processes and systems would be highly regarded.

YOUR COMMITMENT:

Interested applicants should be comfortable they can:

  • Attend 10 to 12 meetings a year, generally on Wednesday every 4 weeks at Lifeplan’s head office in Welshpool (with an option of attending online)
  • Review/contribute to board papers distributed a week in advance of meetings
  • Monitor important developments in the disability sector, noting Lifeplan subscribes to sector support organisations such as National Disability Services
  • Take ownership for improving skills and understanding of the role and sectors Lifeplan works in, e.g. through AICD training and attending sector events

New board members can be appointed directly by the board for up to 12 months and may nominate for a 3-year term at the annual general meeting held in November each year.
