We are seeking a passionate, dedicated and experienced Education Support Specialist to join our new Intensive Therapeutic Transitional Care Team in Tamworth. The ITTC Multidisciplinary team has been designed to provide short term supports based on specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time limited goals (SMART) to young people in the New England region, who have been referred into the ITTC program.

The Educational Support Specialist will be required to provide time limited (up to 13 weeks) direct cultural and health supports in a child-centred environment or through the outreach program. The role of the Education Support Specialist is to support the Therapeutic Specialist ITTC and the ITTC Multidisciplinary team by assisting with achieving the overarching goals for therapeutic intervention.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Respond to referrals for educational supports by the DCJ CFDU in the New England region
  • Engage young people aged 12- 18 years who are at risk of having a placement breakdown  
  • Conduct an educational intake assessment with the young person and relevant stakeholders to assess their educational and learning support needs
  • Provide individual educational support using a trauma informed and strengths-based approach
  • Support young people to improve their connection with education
  • Create a safe and supportive environment for young people within the ITTC program
  • Assist and advocate for young people to be engaged in appropriate educational programs

Make It Matter - What you will bring to make a difference in other's lives

  • Relevant Degree in Teaching or Education  
  • Minimum 1 – 2 years’ experience in teaching
  • A capacity to reflect on your own work and actively participate as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and work with diverse young people and their carers, family or external supports
  • Demonstrated knowledge of child protection legislation and mandatory reporting requirements.
  • Current Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain one
