In Gladstone we are fortunate to assist a diverse range of young people in our Out of Home Care Residential Services. These young people have a range of conditions and challenging behaviours.

We are seeking Therapeutic Youth Workers who are resilient and have a sound understanding of the importance of supporting children and young people in line our commitment to the Child Protection Act 1999.

Own It - How we get the job done

As a Therapeutic Youth Worker, your responsibilities will include:

  • Active Support: Assisting our young people to get ready for the day ahead including getting dressed and showered and preparing meals, coordinating activities, transportation and social outings, plan for and achieve daily goals.
  • Health Support: Administering medication, understanding our young person’s health and wellbeing plan, medication documentation and protocols and any other health support plans.
  • Positive Behaviour Support: Managing young person’s behaviour triggers, strategies to prevent triggers and or how to support the individual when experiencing behaviours of concerns. This will also include de-escalation strategies.
  • Safeguarding: Complete core training, including violence prevention training and other young person specific training.
  • Teamwork: Participate openly in group regular scheduled reflection and support and team meetings, continuously reflect and learn from challenges and experiences to improve the service and the workplace.
  • Administration: Meet the policies, procedures and code of conduct of Lifestyle Solutions.

Make It Matter - What you will bring to make a difference in other's lives

  • Hold or be working towards obtaining Certificate IC in Child, Youth and Family Intervention (Residential Care) or a qualification recognised by Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women. Please review the recognised Minimum Qualification Standards.
  • Current driver’s license (mandatory requirement)
  • Current Blue Card (or be willing to obtain)
  • Current First Aid Certificate, HLTAID003
  • Be willing to be available to work a 24/7 rotating roster which includes evenings, awake shifts, sleepovers and weekend shifts
  • Previous experience in and/or demonstrated motivation to obtain a position supporting young people with a range of behavioural concerns and needs

Please note: The QLD Government Public Health Order requires that staff at disability care accommodation must be fully vaccinated by 17 December 2021.  Evidence of a COVID-19 Certificate will be required from Medicare, MyGov or similar, or be exempt for vaccination due to a medical contraindication provided by an authorised medical practitioner.
