About the Role

The Clinician position provides high quality positive behaviour support and clinical services to clients in our Child, Youth and Family program (OOHC) as part of a professional multi-disciplinary team based in our Perth Metro office (Leederville) that also support our Out of Home Care services in the South West Region, Goldfields and Kimberley's.

As a Clinician with LWB you will provide intensive support to families enabling children to live safely at home where there are significant complex vulnerabilities. You will provide intensive case management including in-home practical and therapeutic support through assessment, specialist referral and consultation using the CARE Model with specific emphasis on the principles of trauma informed, developmentally focused and competency centred approaches.

We have a 12 month contract available. The role comes with a Tool of Trade vehicle, laptop and iPhone and there will be occasional travel required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical knowledge and expertise to support clients in a range of Life Without Barriers programs.
  • Provide assessments of clients’ cognitive and learning abilities, living skills, emotional and mental health status and behavioural profile.
  • Develop and monitor intervention plans and strategies around challenging behaviours exhibited by children in out of home care high and complex needs.
  • Review placement opportunities and skill development of children and young people in out of home care placements.
  • Provide input and support around significant life transitions for clients in LWB placements. Such planning would involve assisting the client to develop skills to cope with these major changes, minimise the impact on them and ensure the viability of the transition.
  • Provide training and support for carers and staff regarding therapeutic support including behaviour support plans and incident prevention and response plans for clients.
  • Apply and uphold principles of equity and anti-discrimination in the workplace and adhere to organisational and legislative Health, Safety and Environment requirements.

 Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in psychology, social work, occupational therapy or equivalent;
  • Current Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) registration with the relevant professional board e.g., Psychology Board; OR current membership of Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW);
  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary stakeholder team and advocate for child-centred outcomes;
  • Ability and experience in working with Aboriginal people and cultural awareness training;
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, ability to use initiative and access peer support, problem solving and conflict management skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and professional boundaries;
  • Understanding of the issues, services and legislation affecting the delivery of services for children and young people in out of home care settings;
  • An ability to relate to and positively influence the skills of a range of support staff such as Foster Carers, Case Managers and Support Workers;
  • Experience with restrictive practices highly desirable;
  • Current Drivers Licence.

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check, Department of Communities Check and Working with Children Check.
