About the Role

The House Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of the current residential services in the Vermont region in Melbourne. This is a hands-on role with most of your time spent on site in the home with allocated administrative days.

You will mentor and lead a team of residential support workers in providing purposeful 1:1 support to young people in residential care with high and complex behavioural needs. You will bring your leadership skills to provide a secure base for our young people within the home, liaising with culturally appropriate services, and providing opportunities for the young people to connect with the culture in which they identify within.

You will strive to enhance the lives of young people in the residential setting, incorporating a therapeutic, trauma informed approach within the daily structure and purposeful programming.

This is a permanent role with working days of Monday to Friday. There would be rostered on call cover required (This is shared amongst House Managers).

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage, support and provide reflective supervision and team meetings to a team of residential workers, and lead staff to work as a team in the best interests of children and young people.
  • Ensure the home is a place that is emotionally and physically safe, nurturing, and appropriately engaging and stimulating, to foster growth and resilience.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of the Departmental Case Plan (where applicable) and develop and implement the LWB Case/Care plan that drives day to day service delivery.
  • Support staff to apply the Therapeutic Crisis Intervention system (TCI) to prevent, de-escalate and respond to crisis incidents involving children and young people.
  • Build professional, trusting relationships with children and young people through visible interest and active engagement.
  • Undertake rostering of residential workers ensuring that risks are managed and staffing levels reflect the needs of children and young people living in the home.
  • Coordinate the intake and transition of new children and young people into the home and the exit of children and young people to permanent homes or step-down services.

Skills & Experience

  • Experience in leading and supervising a team in a similar role
  • Experience working with Autism/ complex behavioural needs 
  • Minimum Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention or similar (essential).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology or similar (desirable).
  • Experience in the co-ordination and management of 24-hour residential services for vulnerable people
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage crises and critical issues and deal with complex and challenging situations.
  • Current Unrestricted Australian Drivers Licence.
  • First Aid and CPR Certificates (or willingness to obtain if successful)
