About the Role

The purpose of the Registered Nurse is to provide medical knowledge and skills to the support of Children, Young People and their Carers in an Out of Home Care (Foster Care and Residential/SIL) environment as part of a multidisciplinary team.

This position is being offered as permanent part-time (4 days per week) and can be based at any of the following QLD offices: Maroochydore, Milton, Shailer Park, Robina, Ipswich or Toowoomba.

The successful candidate for this position will be required to travel to other locations across QLD as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaise with Carers, Case Managers and other LWB staff on a range of health conditions experienced by children and young people in Out of Home Care to inform their case planning processes, including attending and contributing to their Case Conferences.
  • Where indicated, develop plans to assist Carers understand and manage a range of health conditions. Complex Health Care Plans, Epilepsy Management Plans and Infection Control Plans are examples of what may be required.
  • Liaise with other medical and allied health professionals to enhance the well-being of children and young people in Out of Home Care.
  • For children and young people with serious health conditions that may affect their life expectancy, liaise with the appropriate medical specialists, palliative services and key stakeholders in the young person’s life to ensure that treatments and end of life planning processes are in place.
  • Provide suitable training in a range of relevant health related topics to Carers and LWB Staff to enhance their understanding and skills in meeting the health needs of children and young people they support.

 Skills & Experience

  • Recognised Degree Qualification in Nursing and current Registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current Drivers licence
  • Significant experience working with children and young people with complex behavioural and medical needs
  • Current knowledge and demonstrated experience of clinical practice in the area of health planning.

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and Working with Children Check (where relevant to the role).
