About the role

You will be leading a Care Team to support young people in residential Out of Home Care. You will lead the implementation of the CARE framework (https://www.lwb.org.au/our-approach/child-youth-and-family/) to ensure a therapeutic home environment, where children and young people are actively engaged in activities and routines which support them to develop life skills including emotional regulation, problem solving and social competencies.

Working within CARE you will strive to enhance the lives of young people in our Residential Out of Home Care Program incorporating a therapeutic, trauma informed approach.

About you

You will seek to partner with families and other key stakeholders to ensure a strong support network for our young people. You will be passionate about involving family, and supporting young people’s connection to culture, your sense of adventure will take you to remote communities around the Northern Territory. You will be a compassionate, strengths-based leader who creates a supportive and inclusive environment for your team.

You are a passionate advocate for the young people you support and believe in giving all children and young people a voice.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of Therapeutic Residential Carers to ensure a consistent approach to the day to day care of children placed in ITRC placements with LWB
  • Build a positive team environment by demonstration of best practice support of children and young people, proactive interpersonal skills and peer support
  • Monitor the changing needs of children and young people and provide information and contribute to the adaptation of LWB services as required to meet these needs
  • Implement and model the skills and attributes of the CARE model and TCI skills in supporting children and young people to regulate their emotions and develop skills
  • Comply with all Life Without Barriers policy, code of conduct, procedures and practices, external funding body requirements

Experience

  • Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention or similar
  • Experience working with children and young people who have experienced trauma and disadvantage
  • Experience working in a 24/7 residential care setting
  • An empathetic understanding of complex trauma and its effects on children and young people in Out of Home Care.
  • Demonstrated experience in team leadership and management
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • A current drivers licence

Hours

The position requires the incumbent to work on a rostered basis that will include some weekend and overnight shifts when required.
